Nonogram
Puzzles for Pocket PCs is a version of a Japanese puzzle that has become popular
in the 1990's. Also known as Picture Logic or Paint-By-Number, the puzzles have
been popularized in England and also by Games Magazine.

The object of a nonogram puzzle is to fill in a 10 x 10 grid by using logic
so that a picture is revealed. The grid has numbers along each row and each column, which tell you the length of the blocks which are filled in, but not how many spaces are between them.
To get a better understanding of the game you might want to select a random game
and then Game/Solve to
see a correct solution. Take a look at the filled in squares and compare them to
the numbers found at the right and bottom.

The program comes with 45 nonogram pictures for you to solve, but the
heart of the program is your ability to create an endless number of randomly
generated puzzles, with four levels of difficulty. Also provided, with the full
version only, is Nonogram
Creator, a program that will allow you to create your own puzzles.

To start a new puzzle, select File/Open to load in a puzzle or select one of
the various Levels to generate a random puzzle. Level 1 puzzles are the easiest
(80% of the grid is filled).

You will see a blank 10 x 10 grid. The picture or random pattern will be hidden in the grid with the following rules.

The number sequences in the right column indicate the clusters of grid
squares occupied in the horizontal direction. For example, if you
see '2 3 2', this mean that there are 2 squares adjacent, then 3 squares
together and finally 2 more squares together moving from left to right in
the row. Each group has at least one empty square in between.

The number sequences in the bottom row indicate the clusters of grid
squares occupied in the vertical direction. For example, if you see
'1 1', this means that there are 2 single squares in the column moving from
top to bottom.

To play, first tap on the blue, yellow or white square to select your pen
color and then tap on the squares in the grid. Continue filling in the grid
until the game is won.

The colors represent:

White - empty square

Blue - filled square (part of the picture)

Yellow - square known to not be part of the picture

While playing the game, you may start over, check your answers or solve the
puzzle using the commands from the Game Menu. To get a hint for a particular
square location, tap on Hint and then on a square in the grid.

You may change the background color of the screen from the
Options Menu.

Please note that in some cases there will be more than one solution to the
puzzle. The computer will notify you if you have found only one of them.
